On Remembrance Day 2015, Saint-Lambert International High School recognized the outstanding life and positive contributions of one of its own, Mr. Walter ‘Wally’ Charron (Saint-Lambert High School, Class of 1940), by dedicating the gymnasium to this true humanitarian.
Mr. Charron was celebrated through speeches by The Honorable Jim Munson, Mr. Charron’s sons Peter and Bruce, Mrs. Moira Bell, former Chairperson of Riverside School Board and Mr. Michael Languay, former Principal Saint-Lambert International High School.
Mrs. Maureen Charron and her children Lorraine, Bruce, Peter, and Nancy, as well as members of their families, were in attendance to receive a commemorative plaque which will proudly be displayed in the Saint-Lambert International High School gymnasium.
The inscription on the dedicatory plaque reads as follows:
“For Walter Charron, dedication was not a word. Dedication meant action, a way of life, a way of giving to his country, his community, his family, his school and to the youth of the future. In honour of his exceptional service to all, this gymnasium is dedicated to Walter ‘Wally’ Charron on this day of remembrance, November 11, 2015.”
Each level of the Government was represented: Senator Jim Munson, The Honorable Jacques Saada and Alexandra Mendès representing the Federal Government; Mr. Patrick Boie, political consultant representing MNA Madame Nicole Menard representing the Provincial government; and Mr. Alain Despatie - Mayor of Saint-Lambert, were in attendance.
More than 40 members of the Saint-Lambert community joined the students and staff of Saint-Lambert International High School to honour Mr. Charron. The ceremony helped everyone present to remember the fallen and to show respect for those who have and those who still do serve our country. Mr. Okill Stuart, an honoured veteran and long-time Saint-Lambert citizen, recounted his experiences on D-Day reminding all of the price so many paid to ensure our freedom, liberty and peace.
The notable and distinguished ceremony will be remembered as an incredibly important and special day in the history of the school that dates back to the 1870s.
Saint-Lambert International High School is very proud to forever be associated with a great man, a great servant, and a great model for all to emulate in their daily lives.
